The 7th Annual Conference on
Contemporary Catholic Healthcare Ethics

October 9-10, 2008

Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine

This conference, co-sponsored by The Catholic Health Association of the United States, the Illinois Catholic Health Association, and the Neiswanger Institute for Bioethics and Health Policy, Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine will bring together a diverse body of scholars and experts to discuss moral, social and clinical foundations of Catholic healthcare ethics, to apply conceptual resources to current problems, and to confront moral challenges on the horizon for Catholic healthcare providers.

 

We will offer ongoing ethics education through targeted and pertinent presentations for a variety of professionals in Catholic healthcare, including but not limited to:

  • Physicians

Catholic Healthcare PhysiciansOur annual Contemporary Catholic Healthcare Ethics Conference offers a unique and collegial venue for healthcare providers to acquire practical and theoretical resources for improving the delivery of Catholic healthcare in our contemporary and varied settings.

 

The conference consists of two components:

  • Plenary sessions that explores pressing issues of wide-ranging issues in Catholic healthcare ethics, and;

  • small group breakout sessions in which participants discuss creative strategies to address contemporary, clinical challenges in healthcare. (more...)

 

Conference Objectives: 

After participating in this conference, persons should be able to:

 

  • Discuss the theological, social and legal foundations pertinent to Catholic healthcare ethics in our contemporary context.

  • Analyze the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare Services and interpret their meaning for ethical issues arising in healthcare.

  • Identify and describe clinical, social and global concerns
    pertinent to the delivery of Catholic
    healthcare in our contemporary context.

Program Site/Accommodations:  The 7th Annual Contemporary Catholic Healthcare Ethics: Conference, will be held at the Stritch School of Medicine, Loyola University Chicago, 2160 S. First Avenue, Bldg 120, Maywood, IL, 60153.  Parking will be available in Visitor’s Parking Lot 4.

 

A block of guest rooms has been reserved at the Carleton Hotel of Oak Park, 1110 Pleasant Street, Oak Park, IL 60302.  To make your reservation, contact the hotel directly at 708-848-5000 or 888-227-5386 to receive the negotiated rate of $140 for single rooms, $160 for double rooms.  Your reservation must be received by September 10, 2008.  Be sure to mention Group #1049 when reserving your room.  Shuttle bus services will be provided from hotel to conference site.

 

Air Travel:  For all travel arrangements, please call CHA’s travel provider, American Express, at 314-253-3442, or email your request to travel@chausa.org and identify yourself as a “Catholic Healthcare Ethics” attendee.  Registrants who purchase restrictive airfares are responsible for all penalties.

 

Special Needs:  Loyola University Chicago fully intends to comply with legal requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. If participants are in need of special accommodations, please do not hesitate to notify us at 708-327-9200, or by fax, 708-327-9209, at least four weeks prior to the conference.

 

Notices:  During this meeting you may be photographed, video taped, and/or recorded by Loyola University Chicago and/or the Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA).  By attendance or participation in discussion, an individual agrees that Loyola and/or CHA may photograph, copy/record, and/or distribute your participation and involvement in any program discussion.  No person or organizations other than Loyola and CHA may audiotape or videotape any portion of this program without prior written permission of Loyola and CHA.

 

Cancellation:  To cancel your registration, please contact us at 708-327-9200, or by fax, 708-327-9209.  To qualify for refund, minus a $35 processing fee, your cancellation must be in writing and received no later than September 19, 2008. Cancellation requests must be in writing (via fax or email) in order to process a refund. There is no charge for sending a substitute.

 

Loyola and CHA reserve the right to change speakers or modify program content.
