Ethics
Consultation Seminar
(3 Credits)
Next On-Campus Graduate Seminar:
June 17-19, 2009
Faculty: Mark
Kuczewski, PhD, Kayhan Parsi, JD, PhD, John Hardt, PhD,
Kenneth Micetich, MD, Aaron Michelfelder, MD, Theresa Kristopaitis, MD,
Katherine Wasson, PhD, MPH
This seminar (course
number: BEHP410) is for
everyone who sits on an ethics committee and wants to do consults but
doesn’t feel qualified, and everyone who has been doing them for years but
wonders whether they could be doing better. Finally, a chance to
practice doing consults!
We will employ our faculty
and professional “standardized patients,” as well as our extensive
videotaping and technological capabilities at the Loyola University Chicago
Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois, to simulate ethics
consultations, practice communication and interaction skills, and provide
constructive feedback to the seminar participants.
Watch the "Conducting
and Evaluating Ethics Consultations"
video
stream on YouTube presented by Mark Kuzcewski, PhD.
Preference will be given
to students enrolled in the Online MA or
Certificate Programs in Bioethics and Health Policy. However, we
anticipate a small number of at-large registrations being available on a
first-come, first-serve basis.
Skill Building Materials in Case Consultation
For the use of ethics
committees and educators unable to attend our seminars, we provide a
variety of materials to assist you in developing your consulting skills.
These materials, gathered from our recent seminar, include two power point
presentations with narration that: (1) provide an overview of what we know
about ethics case consultation in the United States, and; (2) give an overview
of how to conduct an ethics consultation and how to evaluate your efforts.
We
also provide links to videos of four cases that we recorded during the
simulation course. Visit our
Skill-Building page. |
